An effective print ad is one that does not overwhelm the viewer or
eclipse the message. Your print advertisement only has about 3-5 seconds to
make an impression upon your audience. This limited time may encourage the
notion that the ad must be filled to the brim with information. But in fact,
doing so, merely creates a cluttered, schizophrenic ad that becomes lost among
similar amateurish efforts.
A successful ad will instantly attract the viewer's eye, and make
a connection with your target audience. A well-designed and conceptualized ad
uses color, visuals and white space to create an impression that's not easily
forgotten. It's okay to have white spaces, pauses, slow pans, or other elements
that some might call a "waste" of space. These elements are
intentionally designed to invite the reader to continue to explore the ad
without confusion. Once you have gotten the viewers attention, the eye is
quickly and easily led to your message that calls the viewer to take action.
A good print ad is always composed of four elements:
* provocative
image
* strong
headline
*
concise, well-written copy
* logo
